Trinity College, Dublin (TCD; Irish: Coláiste na Tríonóide, Baile Átha Cliath), corporately designated as the Provost, Fellows and Scholars of the College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth near Dublin, was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I as the "mother of a university",[3] and is the only constituent college of the University of Dublin. Trinity and the University of Dublin form Ireland's oldest and most prestigious university.[4]

Trinity is located in the centre of Dublin, Ireland, on College Green opposite the former Irish Houses of Parliament (now a branch of the Bank of Ireland). The campus occupies 190,000 m2 (47 acres), with many buildings, both old and new, ranged around large courts (known as "squares") and two playing fields. The Library of Trinity College is a copyright library for Ireland and the United Kingdom, containing over 4.5 million books and significant quantities of maps, manuscripts and music.

Lovely Greogorian buildings, lovely campus, but probably not such a lovely place to study because of the tourist crowds. ;P

O'Connell Street (Irish: Sráid Uí Chonaill) is Dublin's main thoroughfare. One of Europe's widest streets, it measures 49m (160ft) in width at its southern end, 46m (150ft) at the north, and is 500m (1650ft) in length. Known as 'Sackville Street' until 1924, Dublin Corporation renamed it in honour of Daniel O'Connell, a nationalist leader of the early nineteenth century whose statue stands at the lower end of the street, facing O'Connell Bridge.

For me basically the heart of the city, as I bascially always have to pass it by or even through it. Very crowded and heavy traffic there, of course, but full of nice buildings. But not much more to say so I'll let the pictures speak for me.

A Lone Dublin - Chapter II: Straight to the heart

Hello again!

As always, time is flying by; more than two weeks have passed since I lasted posted here, I'm sorry to those who were waiting for pictures, even though you are not many. There will be lots of pictures now, I promise and hereby want to apologize for spamming my subscriber's reading pages like that. ;P

Today I realized that in two weeks I will already be leaving this city, luckily not the country, and it makes me sad. Yes, I think I've really lost my heart here, despite all the ugly sites of life here, the weather and the prices for example. And the pollution. But oh the atmosphere, the buildings, the Liffey, the street art, the pubs, the stores, the people, the literary site of it all, the Irish countryside, the proximity of the sea which sends a fresh salty breeze for me to enjoy on my way home every afternoon ... how could I not love it all?

Maybe you will understand my feelings looking at my new - old pictures!

Grand Canal Dock (Irish: Dúga An Chanáil Mhór) is an area in Ringsend near Dublin city centre, surrounding the Grand Canal Docks, an enclosed harbour or docking area between the River Liffey and the Grand Canal.

It is bounded by the Liffey to the North, South Lotts Road to the East, Grand Canal Street to the South and Macken Street to the West. It contains Grand Canal Dock railway station (also known as Barrow Street Station) and notable locations in the area include Boland's Mill, the Waterways Visitor's Centre and the Millennium Tower (an apartment building).

Surprisingly that is all Wikipedia has to say on this area, as it a much more interesting place to be than this makes it sound. It is a rather surreal environment featuring modern office and luxury apartment buildings and fancy cafes and stores on one hand but also old, decaying stock houses and lots of contruction sides on the other hand. It is also where the U2 tower is being and more importantly, it is right behind my house. But see for yourself.

A Lone Dublin - Chapter I : Beginning a picturesque journey

Hello, hello.

Yes! Finally.

For those I didn't tell about it, I chose to expand my language to 5 weeks and then travel a bit so I have those 2 months that were planned to be an internship filled. Which indeed means that I am in Dublin right now, in fact I have been since Sunday, the 7th of June.

The city is absolutely brilliant and fascinating and I haven't even seen half of it. The people are extremely helpful and friendly, but also crazy. But later more of that.

So, as I promised to some of you already, I'll try to keep up a photo (&) blog here. We'll see how long I can keep it up, seeing the amount of pictures I have already taken and need to sort through, as I spent the last three days randomly walking through the city centre on my own, looking for things that are worth to be looked at and photographed, annoying everyone around me by randomly stopping to take out my camera.

Well, well. On to the first batch of pictures now, I'd say. They will be in separated entries following on this one, sorted by theme.
